Twelve Years

Published by Ilana at 9:15 pm under Family/Friends, Random Stuff

As of this past Sunday, I have been married twelve years! *Gasp*

Didn’t I just finish college a few years ago?

Wait, no, there’s also those advanced degrees I hold….

And somehow a lot of my free time seems to have been devoted to a four-year-old and a seven-year-old who starts second grade this fall! Time is flying by.

And, given my recent change in employment status from tenure-track-professor to stay-at-home-mom, this seemed like a good post to share my results from the following quiz. Go ahead. Take it yourself and let us know, how do you rate as a 1930s wife?

Here’s my score:

20

As a 1930s wife, I am
Very Poor (Failure)

Take the test!

Oh well, after 12 years, I’m afraid not much is likely to change.

Happy, Happy Anniversary! I took the test and here’s what I got:

    1930s Marital Scale

    70

    As a 1930s wife, I am
    Superior

I wonder what questions I answered different than you? And I wonder how I’d rank now? LOL Next month will be my 19 year wedding anniversary, so I’ve had a little more practice than you. I hope you guys had a wonderful day!

Well, I got a 20 too and I’ve been with Montana for 19 years. Guess I’m just one of those hairy-legged, women’s libbers that have been slowly eroding the sanctity of marriage. Oops.

That was a pretty funny test. Am I the only one who’s never washed the cap of a milk bottle before opening it?

This year was 12 for us also. My score was 33, which makes me only poor as a 30s wife, rather than very poor. Still, I guess that means my husband doesn’t want a 1930s wife, so yippee! I’m pretty sure my biggest flaw would be putting my cold feet on him at night to warm them. Or could it be that I drink? Or the inability to provide meals on time and be sunny in the morning?

This was definitely my favorite though:

Reacts with pleasure and delight to marital congress.

    Congrats on 12 years!

Happy (belated) anniversary! And I know what you mean about time going fast. I’m always surprised when I stop and do the math, too. As for 1930s housewifery, that would not be my area of expertise. In fact, when I *do* find any sort of area of expertise, I’ll let you know. I just know it’s not that. ;-)

    Thanks everyone!

Robin, you should have your husband take the other quiz and see if he’s holding up his end!

Pam and Caryn, I’m pretty sure my husband didn’t marry me either for my housekeeping skills… the word quirky was mentioned…

LOL. Jennifer, before I took this quiz, I had no idea you were supposed to wash the cap of a milk bottle. Now in the past when working in a cell biology lab, I’ve flamed the cap of a bottle to sterilize it… but really, what is all the HCl in our stomachs for if it can’t handle a little bacteria?

I think I lost out when forced to check things like: “Doesn’t like to get up in the morning to prepare breakfast.” I interpreted this as cooking something hot for breakfast (beyond toast). Maybe I’ll do this on weekends provided I don’t have to get up too early… and I am definitely not a morning person.

As a writers, I suppose most of us do: “Writes often and lovingly when away from husband.” But I’m thinking they probably mean letters to said husband. Oh well.

I got a 53, so I am apparently average. I’ve been at it for 18 years (plus two years of “living in sin” hmm… wonder if that takes off points?)

    Happy Anniversary Ilana!
